Chateau de Palayson – hidden desires

Incredibly awful opinions on the Internet, golden medals on their bottles and visible aspirations of the owners on the wine label. Do you need anything more to visit this place?

My husband and I were mostly driven by our fondness for this area. What is more, I have to mention that this place looks simply idyllic from the road. You cannot go past Chateau de Palayson! Ladies and Gentlemen! Today I am taking you on a trip to Var, which is number 83 in France, as well as to the lovely surroundings of Roqueburne-sur-Argens. The town itself is worth seeing so I am sure that you will not be bored here.

Chateau de Palayson - view from the road

Chateau is visible from the road. Although the driveway is does not make a strong impression, after a while you find yourself in a magical landscape. The small disarray which we have come across has no great influence on this wondrous experience. Here, in Chateau de Palayson, you have a feeling that Italy is connected with the land of the Franks and that each of those nations has imprinted its most beautiful features in this very place. The nature, buildings, stones – everything is like a miracle here. However, the owners of this unique place have no flair for the guests. Not everyone has hospitality in them, not everyone is born with one. There are people who become prejudiced as they grow and experience different things in their lives. The lady of the house welcomed us briefly and disappeared a moment later. On the other hand the host spent much more time with us. This way we found out about the ruins of an ancient Roman villa, which had been discovered in the area.

Two chapels from the 11th century, a Roman mausoleum, wine caves and a luxurious villa for rent are just enough reasons to visit. Do not be fooled by the Chateau de Palayson’s owner’s story that only here they produce red wines. Let’s turn a deaf ear to that and discover this place as well as some excellent wine I have found here: Reserve 2016.

If we turn a blind eye to the slight inconvenience connected with the hospitality, we will quickly see that Chateau de Palayson is not only a perfect place to relax but also to organize all kind of events. The thing which makes it so special and puts it among the top of the tops is – without a doubt – its intimate atmosphere that goes with a suitable, easy to get to location. Next in line are: the good red wine and the unique charm of Chateau de Palayson. The 11th century chapels are splendid for weddings or intimate receptions – up to 60 people. There is also the open air area! The one you can surely describe as amazing!

Chateau de Palayson - the view of the vineyard and the Massif des Maures

Chateau de Palayson is also offering organized tours around the vineyard, connected with a four course lunch for foodies. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to try it so I am not going to form any statements about that. The route runs through the Roman ruins and their history that goes back to 200 BC, an explanation of the wine-making process, as well as some educational tasting of wines in the palace. This program is available for the groups of 25 to 40 people. You can also organize a custom-made trip. The owners are open to new ideas.
For those who would like to stay a little longer, there is also a very pleasant villa for rent. It will surely appeal to you. It is suitable for up to 8 guests. The view of the vineyard and a private swimming pool will be enough to balance the lack of warm feeling from the owners. Well, if you have some distance to the world and yourself, I am sure you will be able to enjoy this place from a fairy tale. Take a look for yourself:
