Commanderie de Peyrassol – Templar Knights and Contemporary Art

Peyrassol is the vineyard impossible to miss. It would be as great a sin to skip it. It goes the same with produced wine – to drink too much without first testing it properly is a sin as well. This place attracts us like a magnet because it is nothing more than a Knights Templar’s . A place with history and one would like to say with a spirit, which unfortunately was concreted in the local cellars or simply guarded carefully. In any case, this is where you should look. There is history here, you just have to know where to dig.

The Commandery of Peyrassol is located in the province Var, north of St. Tropez and Hyères, between Le Luc and Flassans-sur-Issole. The entrance gives the impression of a bold property, and the title “commandery” awaits the question – whether it is a functioning commandery and if yes where we can find the Great Master.

Founded in the 13th century by the Templar Order, stretching over 950 hectares, this place is another wonderful amusement park on the map of vineyards. It’s also one of those extraordinary mystical spots that must be visited. The Templar Order itself is already a place that cannot be missed.

I do not know how to get true story here, because I have heard of various beliefs, including the one saing that current place was never a commandery before, but merely a Templar farm. But why do we need to know every detail of the story? Why strip this fine story from a place that undoubtedly deserves to be great in the eyes of others.

… And truly, they offer here a lot, all packed in their own special holding way. After just a few steps of walking, we can see that Peyrassol is a place dedicated to contemporary art.

A collection of monumental sculptures found its place here.

Valérie Bach and Philippe Austruy are patrons of the arts. How could it be otherwise? Inside and outside you will find sculptures and paintings.

As an artist I have not found the spirit here but I am still looking and since this place cannot be denied of space, neither physical nor for the imagination I am slowly finding my place here. While hunting for the spirit I also learned that there is a 350-hectare hunting park here, inhabited by deer, hinds, mouflons, red deer and wild boars. If you intend to hunt, there are perfectly organized hunting days at your disposal. You will be completely satisfied. Here you can hunt in great style.

La Commanderie de Peyrassol is over 950 hectares of oak trees, olive groves and some 100 hectares of vineyards. The first vines were planted here almost 800 years ago by the Knights Templar. From 1311 to 1789 Peyrassol was in the hands of the Order of Malta. That’s for the past – What can you find in Peyrassol today? Certainly wines, the possibility of tasting, sightseeing, entertainment, relaxation in the bosom of nature. If you need a place for a wedding or a special meeting, you will also be offered here, along with a range of other necessary for a good time cooperating companies. The Peyrassol event team will be at your disposal here!

Three event spots:

  1. Canopy – terrace with panoramic views of the vineyard and glass floor can accommodate up to 180 guests.
  2. Village square – charming Provencal space for good fun – up to 200 guests.
  3. Guard room – 40-50 people.

Guest rooms are not only a place to stay for guests but also to extend their stay at the vineyard. A swimming pool and tennis court complete the 7th heaven! Creative possibilities, discretion of the place and a unique atmosphere all make up the perfect wedding venue.

Extraordinary people and associations are hosted here, such as the Great Dignitaries and Knights of the Order of the Knights of Medusa. This is a Bacchic order promoting the wines of Provence http://www.ordre-meduse.com The Brotherhood of Medusa loves good wine, good food and good fun. The “cream de la cream” appears here, i.e. Medusa, Dionysus, a wine named oil, extraordinary stories and tales, and currently beautiful costumes and good fun of the wine brotherhood. The nephew of the owner of the estate Alban Cacaret is an Officer of the Order of the Knights of Medusa. He manages the domain, one of four belonging to the Austruy family.

I also found Grand Master Jean-Pierre Boyer, currently Honorary President of Bandol Wines. The Grand Constable, already described by me, Matthieu De Wulf, the vice-president of the Vignerons Indépendant du Var, was also there. Phew, what a small world this is.

So I return from complicated topics to nature. Undoubtedly, Peyrassol is an ideal place for hiking, and the nature here is delightful.

The vegetable and herb garden with its dominant white color also turned out to be charming. Everything perfectly maintained and managed.
